Edgetech I.G., a division of Quanex Engineered Products, was built upon a unique technology invented in 1985 by Edgetech I.G. Ltd in Ottawa. Since then, Super Spacer® – the world’s only TrueWARM®, all-foam edge seal product line – has continued to revolutionize the fenestration industry with maximum condensation resistance, durability and energy performance.
 
Company History

Edgetech I.G. was officially formed in 1989 as a fully owned subsidiary of Lauren Manufacturing of New Philadelphia, Ohio. After substantial growth in its first five years of operations, Edgetech I.G. was made autonomous from Lauren Manufacturing as a standalone entity in 1994. A new holding company, Lauren International, Inc., was formed by CEO and Chairman of the Board, Dale Lauren Foland, for the two divisions – Lauren Manufacturing and Edgetech I.G. Inc. In that same year, Edgetech’s production was moved from Lauren International’s headquarters in New Philadelphia, Ohio, to its current 417,000 square foot facility located on 72 acres in Cambridge, Ohio. The facility also houses Edgetech’s administrative offices, Marketing Services group, and extensive research and development laboratory.
 
In recent years, Edgetech has gained considerable market share internationally through its commitment to educating regulators, window manufacturers and homeowners worldwide on the energy-saving benefits of warm edge technology. To establish its worldwide presence, the company opened Edgetech UK in Coventry, England, and Edgetech Europe GmbH in Neuss, Germany. After nearly 300 percent sales growth in the UK between 2003 and 2006, Edgetech opened its first international manufacturing facility in Coventry, England, in July 2007. The $4.4 million investment resulted in a world-class facility to further facilitate the growth of warm edge technology in Europe.
 
In 2008, Edgetech earned its ISO certification; and in 2009, the certification was upgraded to ISO 9001:2008 with Design. The company was also named to the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest growing private companies in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 by Inc. Magazine. Due to ongoing success internationally, Edgetech opened its second European manufacturing facility in late 2010. The 47,000 square-foot facility, located in Heinsberg, Germany, is the new home of Edgetech Europe, GmbH. Production officially began at the facility in March 2011 as the company marked its two-billionth foot of Super Spacer.

 

On March 31, 2011, Quanex Building Products purchased Edgetech I.G. from Lauren International in an effort to develop a partnership that would enable the continued growth of Edgetech and further Quanex’s already wide offerings to the fenestration industry.

Its unique structural foam, no-metal construction is desiccant filled with a pre-applied adhesive. Super Spacer warm edge spacers also feature a proprietary multi-layer vapor barrier for improved performance in a window system.
