| Company Profile
A
unique polymer sponge rubber architectural
seal was developed in 1985 to improve
the energy efficiency of insulated
glass windows. Edgetech I.G., Ltd.,
was then formed in Ottawa, Ontario,
Canada to manufacture the energy efficient
window spacers.
Today,
the window spacer is trademarked
as Super Spacer®, and is
manufactured by Edgetech I.G., Inc.,
in Cambridge, Ohio. The structural
foam, non-metal window spacer system
dramatically improves window performance,
and has revolutionized the insulating
glass window and door industry across
North America. Today, Super Spacer
is sold worldwide, and is rapidly gaining
market share in Europe, Asia and South
America. In 1989, Edgetech became
a fully owned subsidiary of Lauren
International, Inc., a New Philadelphia,
Ohio based extruder and molder of
polymer based seals, gaskets and rubber
components.
Company History
During the early
years, Super Spacer was manufactured at Lauren's New Philadelphia
facility. With sales of Super Spacer rising dramatically
year-to-year, Edgetech realized a need to increase its
manufacturing operations. In the summer of 1994, the company
moved it's operations from Lauren to a 450,000 sq. ft. facility
at 800 Cochran Avenue in Cambridge, Ohio. The facility
also houses Edgetech's extensive research laboratory and
quality control division, which enable the company to
pursue a host of new ideas and concepts that continue
to revolutionize the warm-edge industry. In 1996, Edgetech
added substantial equipment and staff to double its manufacturing
capacity. Edgetech also runs a UK operation based in Coventry,
England, a division in Nuess, Germany—Edgetech Europe
GmbH, and maintains a worldwide sales network.
Edgetech maintains a dedicated 15,000 sq. ft. equipment
development operation at its Cambridge facility to design
and manufacture horizontal application equipment for small
to medium sized IG manufacturing companies. The model
facility helps Edgetech educate IG manufacturers on how
Super Spacer products can enhance their productivity and
improve their flexibility and speed. Edgetech's achievements
with Super Spacer have received recognition from many
energy and environmental organizations around the globe.
Given the importance that window technology will have
in all future building science, Edgetech plans to continue
its leadership in warm-edge technology for generations
to come.
