Frequently Asked Questions

Super Spacer® Components

Why is Mylar tape not conductive?
All materials are conductive; however, some are less conductive than others. These are classified as insulative materials. The thermal conductivity of Super Spacer® Standard is 0.162 W/mK and 0.159 W/mK for Premium/Premium Plus and TriSeal™.

How long will Argon gas be effective in a Super Spacer IG unit?
By taking a look at our technical data, you'll see that Super Spacer has excellent Argon gas retention.

What is Low-E Coating?
A Low-E coating applied to the surface of window glazing reduces heat transfer through the glazing by reducing the emissivity.

What is U-value?
U-value is the measure of how well heat is transferred by a window, thus affecting heating and air conditioning costs. U-factor is the inverse of R-value. The lower the U-factor, the better the window will retain heat on a cold day or cooling on a hot day.

What is R-value?
R-value is the measure of thermal resistance used to compare insulating values. The higher the R-value number of a material, the better its insulating properties and the slower the heat flows through it.
